Academy Museum The Horror Show Los Angeles 2026: Tickets and Halloween Guide

Plan a visit to The Horror Show with verified exhibition details, Halloween events, ticket options and important October closure alerts.

Academy Museum The Horror Show Los Angeles 2026 is a useful starting point for movie lovers planning an October outing beyond the multiplex. The exhibition opened September 26 and remains on view through July 25, 2027. With Halloween approaching, the museum is pairing its exploration of frightening cinema with vampire-themed activities, an after-hours party and anniversary screenings.

This is a planning guide based on the museum’s published information, not a firsthand exhibition review. The key distinction for visitors: gallery admission, film screenings and special events are different bookings.

Inside the Academy Museum’s The Horror Show in Los Angeles

The official exhibition page places the show in the fourth-floor Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery. A sound installation and a hallway lead into six thematic sections: Gothic, Psychological, Science, Slasher, Religion and Ghosts.

Rather than treating horror as a single formula, the exhibition examines different ways filmmakers create dread. Its featured films include Frankenstein, Alien, Get Out, Ringu and Midsommar. Production and storytelling materials connect the finished movies to the decisions behind them.

That approach makes the exhibition relevant to aspiring filmmakers as well as fans. A useful way to explore it is to compare how sound, setting and character design support different kinds of fear. The museum advises parental guidance because some themes may disturb visitors or be unsuitable for younger audiences.

October 24: Monster Mash and vampire cinema

Monster Mash takes place Saturday, October 24, 2026, and is included with museum admission. The museum lists special-effects demonstrations, tours and monster appearances centered on vampire storytelling.

Related film listings include Hotel Transylvania, Blade in 4K and the US premiere of a 4K restoration of Horror of Dracula. These titles offer very different entry points into the vampire tradition: animated comedy, superhero action and classic gothic horror. Check individual screening listings and reserve the film tickets separately; general admission should not be mistaken for a seat in the theater.

October 31: Museum After Dark

For Halloween night, Museum After Dark is scheduled for Saturday, October 31. The goth-themed party includes cocktails, tarot readings, a special guest and a screening of The Craft (1996). The museum’s announcement identifies the party as an event for adults 21 and older.

The event page currently lists regular admission at $45, member admission at $40 and screening-only tickets starting at $5. Related listings identify Robin Tunney and Rachel True for the film’s 30th-anniversary screening. Verify the selected ticket’s inclusions before checkout, particularly if your goal is the screening rather than the party.

Tickets, hours and October closure alerts

The museum’s visitor guide lists regular hours of 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Wednesday through Monday, with Tuesdays closed. However, it flags a full closure October 17 and a noon opening October 18. The Dolby Family Terrace is also listed as closed October 11–19.

General admission currently costs $25 for adults, $19 for seniors 62 and older, and $15 for adult students with valid identification. Visitors 17 and younger receive free general admission. The exhibition carries no additional gallery charge. The museum encourages advance reservations, and its ticket page separates museum admission from screening and event bookings.

The museum is at 6067 Wilshire Boulevard. Paid parking is available nearby; check garage rates before traveling. It also flags the Wilshire/Fairfax Metro station as closed October 23–November 1. Halloween visitors using transit should therefore check an alternative route rather than relying on the usual station stop.

For another current horror-cinema option, see Hollywood Weekly’s Screamfest 2026 Los Angeles schedule and tickets guide. Looking beyond Halloween, the museum lists a 50th-anniversary screening of Carrie with Sissy Spacek on November 19. Check availability before building a visit around any special guest or screening.
