What Did Marvel Announce at Comic-Con 2026?

Marvel has returned to San Diego Comic-Con with superheroes, major movie previews, video-game experiences and clues about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although Comic-Con 2026 continues through July 26—and Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Hall H presentation is scheduled for Saturday, July 25—several important developments are already generating excitement among fans.
Avengers: Doomsday Brings Marvel’s Worlds Together
The biggest Marvel story surrounding Comic-Con is Avengers: Doomsday, the next massive crossover in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A new trailer confirms that the movie will unite heroes from several corners of Marvel history. The Avengers will be joined by characters from Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four and the X-Men universe.
Robert Downey Jr., known worldwide as Tony Stark and Iron Man, returns to Marvel in the dramatically different role of Doctor Doom. Rather than simply revisiting the past, Marvel appears prepared to use Downey’s return to introduce a dangerous new chapter in its multiverse story.
The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
Chris Evans Returns as Steve Rogers
The Avengers: Doomsday footage also confirms the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers.
The trailer shows Rogers reconnecting with Thor and once again wielding Mjölnir, the enchanted hammer he memorably lifted in Avengers: Endgame. Marvel has not yet revealed whether audiences are seeing the original Steve Rogers, a version from another universe or another unexpected twist.
That mystery is already inspiring considerable discussion among Marvel fans.
The Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men Will Meet
Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious productions.
Confirmed returning characters include Thor, Loki, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Captain America, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, the Fantastic Four, Shuri, Namor and M’Baku.
Several actors associated with the earlier X-Men movies are also part of the announced cast, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer. Channing Tatum is expected to return as Gambit.
The size of this ensemble suggests that Doomsday will not be an ordinary superhero sequel. It appears designed to bring multiple Marvel generations and cinematic universes together for a confrontation with Doctor Doom.
Doctor Doom’s Plan May Involve Franklin Richards
Marvel is also connecting Avengers: Doomsday directly to The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Franklin Richards, the powerful son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, appears to be important to Doctor Doom’s plans. That connection could help explain why the Fantastic Four enter the Avengers’ world and why multiple universes may ultimately collide.
Marvel has not disclosed the complete storyline, but the clues point toward a multiversal conflict inspired by major comic-book events such as Time Runs Out and Secret Wars.
A Live-Action Miles Morales Is Being Planned
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has also confirmed that Marvel has plans to introduce Miles Morales into a future live-action Spider-Man story.
Miles is already internationally popular because of the animated Spider-Verse movies. Feige indicated that the live-action transition would likely happen after the animated trilogy concludes with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, currently scheduled for June 18, 2027.
Marvel has not announced an actor, director or release date for the live-action Miles Morales project. Nevertheless, Feige’s statement provides the clearest confirmation yet that Miles is expected to become part of Marvel’s live-action future.
Meanwhile, Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, opening July 31, 2026.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Expands the Experience
Marvel’s Comic-Con presence extends beyond movies and television.
Fans are getting a new look at Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a team-based fighting game featuring characters from the Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy and other Marvel worlds.
Its open beta runs July 24–26 on PlayStation 5 and PC. Players can test multiple characters, stages, ranked and casual competition, an interactive lobby and a portion of the game’s story-based Episode Mode.
Marvel’s Comic-Con Celebration Continues
Marvel is also presenting panels, comic-book news, cosplay gatherings, merchandise, interactive displays and behind-the-scenes experiences throughout the convention.
The most important point is that Marvel’s Comic-Con story is still developing. Additional movie announcements, casting surprises, trailers and release dates may emerge during the Saturday Hall H presentation.
What has already been revealed, however, points toward a major transition for Marvel: Doctor Doom is rising, veteran heroes are returning, the Fantastic Four and X-Men are entering the larger MCU story, and Miles Morales is moving closer to his live-action future.
Marvel’s next era appears designed to connect its past, present and future on an unprecedented scale.
